Roughing It by Mark Twain
Mark Twain's ramblings took him all over the American West during the 1860's. This book, written by Twain, covers his time from leaving Missouri in 1861, his life and times in Nevada and Virginia City, and on into California. He prospected for gold and silver on the Comstock and worked for the Territorial Enterprise newspaper where he was employed when he (Samuel Clemens) took the pen name of Mark Twain in February 1863. His exploits in Nevada and quite hilarious and very interesting. Questions still abound as to whether this account is factual or somewhat fictional. He was a great one for embellishment however this account is generally a non-fiction account of his time here. PB, NF, 300 pgs. |
